Some reputed shipping company organize Sponsorship Test and select candidates for Sponsorship. Basically “Sponsorship” is Job, Placement & Training assurance in WRITTEN given to a candidate who successfully clears all the phase of “Sponsorship Test” organized by the Approved Shipping company.

Generally “Sponsorship Test” is completed in 3 Phases as follows:

  • Written Offline/Online Test
  • Psychometric/16 PF Test
  • Personal Interview &
  • Medical Examination (By D.G Approved Doctor)
  • Candidate who successfully passed all phases are then “SPONSORED” by the Company and issued “Sponsorship Letter”.

Sponsorship is offered for following Merchant Navy Courses:

Candidates have the option to join as sponsored or non- sponsored candidates. Sponsored candidates are those who get selected by shipping companies before the start of the course. These shipping companies conduct their separate entrance tests besides IMU and have their own standards with regard to eligibility criteria. HOWEVER PASSING THE IMU EXAM REMAINS COMPULSORY FOR EVEN THE SPONSORED CANDIDATES. We conducts sponsorship tests on behalf of various reputed shipping companies who have been its clients for many years now. Non – Sponsored candidates after passing the IMU CET (COMMON ENTRANCE TEST ) have to appear in IMU counseling and based on their rank they are allotted a college anywhere in India. Sponsorship tests which are held for two separate deck cadet batches that start in 1st week of February and August every year. For the February batch the tests are generally held in the months of Oct / Nov while sponsorship tests for August batch of deck cadets are held in the months of April / May.

How to apply for SPONSORSHIP Test 2021?
Shipping companies releases application form for “Sponsorship Test”. Candidates have to make application with details required. You can also contact us for Sponsorship Test 2021  Application. The term sponsored candidate is used for as a candidate who will be sponsored a sea-berth on board a ship on completion of training. It does not relate to sponsorship of tuition fees at the pre-sea training institute.
A candidate who has met all the qualifying criteria; will be sponsored by  Ship Management  Company on-board one of its large fleet of ships.
Candidates who are still undergoing the company selection process will declare themselves as a non-sponsored candidate in the Form A of the IMU entrance exam. These candidates can later declare themselves as a sponsored candidate if they are selected by any shipping company.

The candidates are strongly advised that before participating in Common Entrance Test they shall get themselves medically examined for their physical and medical fitness as per the standards set by Merchant Shipping Medical Examination Rules, 2000, as amended from time to time as well as for their eye-sight to ensure that they meet the relevant criteria in this regard. It would be prudent to get the eye-sight checked from a qualified Eye specialist to ascertain that the candidate posses 6/6 eye-sight in both eyes and do not suffer from colour blindness or any other deformity of eyes.
